A Pythagorean cup looks like a normal drinking cup, except that the bowl has a central column in it. It was supposedly invented by Pythagoras of Samos (yes, that one). It allows the user to fill the cup with wine up to a certain level. If the user fills only to that level, the imbiber may enjoy a drink in peace. If, however, the user gets greedy, the cup dumps all the wine into the unfortunate victim’s lap.

Pythagoras sounds like a real asshole.

One of the subtley heartbreaking things about some magical girl series is when the main character has civilian best friends in the beginning and watching her drift apart from them as the story progresses.

I’ve actually wanted to make a webcomic about this, it’d be from the civilian friend’s perspective but I thought it was a dumb/too sad an idea so I never did anything with it

This is a thing that does happen in a lot of media, especially involving kids. I want to say the same happens in Digimon to a certain extent as well as civilian friends who aren’t in on the secret just fade away or are briefly mentioned (Mimi coming to talk to her friends when they first come back from the Digital World).
But yes, we need a webcomic about this.
